The 1st International Conference on New Literacies or ICoNLIT 2018 focuses on the theme of “Digitizing New Literacies” that is not only transforming but also making a profound impact on new literacies’ practices and tools. Today, educators and learners are surrounded by a host of different technologies that is changing their roles and the traditional teaching and learning practices. ICoNLIT 2018 provides a platform for all established and new researchers from academic and non–academic disciplines, to discuss this theme and share their knowledge, research methodologies, experiences and insights.

Harshita Aini Haroon holds a B.Ed (Hons) TESOL from West Sussex Institute of Higher Education, UK. She obtained her MA Linguistics and Information Processing, and her PhD from the University of Leeds. She is currently a Professor at the Centre for International Languages at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), where she is also the Director. Prior to joining UniMAP, she served as Deputy Dean at the School of Cognitive Sciences and Education, Universiti Utara Malaysia, and Director of the Quality Management Institute at the same university. She was then seconded to the National Higher Education Strategic Plan (PSPTN) Programme Management Office of the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) where she first served as Programme Manager, and then as Director. Harshita’s interests include corpus linguistics, language use, language teaching and learning, and quality in higher education. Her latest research is on the development of a model that aids English-Malay translation of technical terms. Harshita currently supervises several postgraduate students undertaking research on issues in linguistics and language learning. She is a member of Malaysian Society for Higher Education Policy and Research Development (PenDaPaT). While she is normally a tolerant person, she sometimes finds herself being overly picky with typos and dangling modifiers!
